Airman 1st Class Brian Hoang, 47th Comptroller Squadron financial service technician, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of May 21, 2018, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.
The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Charlie Velino, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
Hoang, having only been at Laughlin for six months has already successfully facilitated more than 390 walk-in appointments, with most of his customer’s issues resolved in only one visit.
“It’s our job to not only help others with finances, but make sure they have their situation handled so that next time it comes up, they know what to do,” Hoang said.
Hoang selflessly invested more than 180 hours of his personal time to help provide one-on-one training for other Airmen in his unit.
“I noticed that some Airmen in my unit were unfamiliar with programs such as [Microsoft] Excel,” Hoang said. “To help them become more proficient, I like to share my experience so they wouldn’t struggle as much and feel a little more comfortable doing their job.”
During Laughlin’s “Fiesta of Flight” Open House and Airshow, Hoang volunteered to work the kid’s zone. While volunteering in the kid’s zone, he projected a positive image to the youth, as well as ensure their safety.
“It was good to be there and be motivated, even though some people were volunteered, it was hot and worked over six hours, being able to support a bigger cause and make sure people that visiting our base enjoyed their time,” Hoang said.
Ensuring customers receive the best quality financial service, volunteering personal time to his team and taking on extra duties earned Hoang the “XLer of the week.”
