WIESBADEN, Germany – Various movements of U.S. Army Europe units through the German State of Saxony-Anhalt will take place until the end of May.
The 1st Armored Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas will replace the 2nd Armored Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, Kansas, for the third rotation of Atlantic Resolve. The equipment was transferred to Europe by sea to the Belgian port of Antwerp and unloading started on May 21, 2018. Equipment will be transported by military convoys on Autobahn A2 from west to east through the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
Operation Atlantic Resolve aims to ensure peace and stability in the Eastern European NATO countries. Since April 2014, U.S. Army Europe has led land force efforts on behalf of the U.S. military, by conducting continuous, enhanced multinational training and security cooperation activities with allies and partners in Eastern Europe. The multinational training and security cooperation activities are taking place in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Hungary. The training events improve interoperability, strengthen relationships and trust among allied armies, contribute to regional stability, and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
In addition, equipment in support of the exercise Saber Strike 18, will be transported from south to north on Autobahn A9. Exercise Saber Strike 18 will take place June 3-15 at training areas in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland. Approximately 18,000 participants from 19 different countries will participate in the eight iteration of the exercise. Key training events include a convoy by 2nd Cavalry Regiment from Germany to Latvia. In total about 2,000 vehicles and 7,000 Soldiers will be transported from southern Germany to the training areas in Eastern Europe.
Military movements may temporarily disrupt road and rail traffic.
As part of Host Nation Support, the German Armed Forces is providing assistance through the Joint Service Support Command (JSCC). They coordinate assistance to allied and partner armed forces during their stay in Germany. The state command coordinates the support service in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
