Wingman Day Amazing Race won by Rhinos

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. – Twenty three 10-person teams competed against each other in the Wingman Day Amazing Race that started at the base theater April 27, 2018, here.

Teams had to correctly complete a history test about the Air Force before receiving their first clue, pointing them toward one of the remaining nine locations, each having its own set of challenges. Teams had to take “selfies” at each location as proof that all challenges were accomplished.

Having the theme: “We’re all Airmen,” each Amazing Race team included at least one Airman, NCO, senior NCO and an officer. Civilians and spouses were also welcomed to join their unit’s team.

The focus of this Wingman Day was to promote mental, physical, social and spiritual resilience, the four domains of Comprehensive Airman Fitness, through teamwork and diversity.

“Wingman Days are an investment in our Airmen and they’re designed to refresh and reinvigorate,” said Mike Snodgrass, 436th Airlift Wing community support coordinator. “Today was an opportunity for each person to understand and value the importance of teamwork and diversity by working together to solve each of the Amazing Race clues as they worked their way through the numerous challenges.”

The race concluded at 10:45 a.m. regardless of individual team completion. Teams were evaluated based on cumulative scores of each individual challenge.

“This Wingman Day made me feel proud to be a member of the United States Air Force,” said Tech Sgt. Edward Perez, 436th Airlift Wing resilience manager. “It has been a while since I have seen teamwork like I saw during the Amazing Race. It wasn’t about who outranks who, it was about total unity amongst all Airmen. The smiles, the hard work and the commitment to each other was something I will remember forever.”

The “Rhinos” from the 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron came in first place followed by the 9th Airlift Squadron “Proud Pelicans,” and the 436th Security Forces Squadron “Defenders.”
