An Afghan Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) calibrates a Mi-17 helicopter fuel gauge using state-of-the- art equipment at the Special Mission Wing’s Avionics Lab Mazar-e Sharif on Apr. 22, 2018. Since its creation six months ago, the Avionics Lab has calibrated nearly 100 critical flight instruments, to include tachometers, main rotor sensors, alarm systems, altimeters, vibration sensors and temperature indicators. The SMW is Afghanistan's only special operations aviation unit and performs a full-range of special operations aviation missions to include counter-narcotics, counterterrorism, ISR, and casualty evacuation.
