This training event increased the Marine Corps’ combat readiness and lethality through a realistic training scenario using the new Anti-Tank weapon system (ATWS) while increasing the Marine Corps individual section level proficiency.
“The new ATWS is an upgrade to the legacy Emerson turret,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jeremy Barone, the battalion infantry weapons officer with 2nd LAR, 2nd Marine Division. “The old weapon system has finally ran past its life-time; we took the Marine Corps Saber system and mounted it on the standard LAV chassis while adding other modifications.”
The advancements of the new Saber system include improved sights, tracking, night vision, and longer visual range.
“What we have is the ability for our LAVs to keep up with the other variants, with the upgrade from the Saber System as the most current technology with anti-tank missile engagement. It allows us to bare our missiles on our enemies,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Barone.
The weapon system is designed to protect reconnaissance and light infantry teams with its mission to defeat threats at long-range and in all weather conditions while adding the upgraded capability for target engagement.
This training event allowed the Marine Corps to fully maximize the capabilities of the new integrated in order to refine its ability to react to any situation and uphold its reputation of fighting in any clime and place.
