Electricity recently returned to Pekha Valley, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan this March upon the completion of a micro-hydropower plant. ISIS-K destroyed the locals' original electricity source as they fled the valley upon the advance of Afghan National Defense and Security Forces into Pekha Valley in the spring of 2017.

Approximately 200 families in Pekha Valley now have access to shared electricity. More importantly, the plant provides an efficient flow of water essential to the economic recovery of the agrarian-based economy.

Coalition funds secured the equipment required for the plant. Afghan locals validated their understanding of the power plant's operational and sustainment requirements through a series of maintenance assessments.
