316th ESC Soldiers collect toys, food, and give time for charities

Each year, the Soldiers in the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command team up with local charities to make the holiday season a little brighter for area children.

Two giving campaigns help remind Soldiers what the holidays are all about. The annual Stuff-A-Bus event is a Marine Corps initiated bike drive that supports its Toys-For-Tots program. The 316th ESC also has it own charitable giving event called Hunger Games, an annual canned food drive supported by every unit in the U.S. Army Reserve’s McGarity Center. Each unit and section ‘competes’ to give the most food for the drive during November and December each year.

In a month, Army Reserve Soldiers donated more than two-dozen children’s bikes, donated hundreds of volunteer hours to food banks, public schools, and community centers and collected hundreds of pounds of dry food items at the unit’s headquarters in Coraopolis, Pa.
