Forty-eight operators joined the elite Afghan National Mission Units of the General Command of Police Special Units after two months of intensive training at the Special Police Training Wing-South Leadership course in Logar province, Afghanistan, Nov. 27. NMUs conduct high-risk arrests, high-profile attack response, counterterrorism, and counternarcotic missions under the auspices of the Afghan Ministry of Interior.
The operators completed an eight-week program of instruction focused on perfecting individual and collective policing and special operations skills required to serve in an NMU. The graduates were assessed and selected for the NMU qualification course after serving with distinction in a provincial Police Special Unit.
“Take your job seriously and, at all times, remember to maintain a low profile and operate in secrecy so that the enemy never learns of who you are and your ability to maintain law and order throughout Afghanistan,” said GCPSU Deputy Col. Khanjari.
Currently, three NMUs are located in Kabul, Logar, and Kandahar provinces. Three additional NMUs will be established in Kunduz, Herat, and Nangarhar provinces as part of the Afghan 2020 Road Map. The Road Map is Afghanistan’s plan to enhance security and stability in Afghanistan through an investment in the doubling of the Afghan Special Security Forces such as the NMUs.
