The Friday Pancake Night hosted at the Foster Chapel is scheduled to be relocated to the Camp Foster USO Nov. 17.
Friday Pancake Night is a weekly event that serves free pancakes to all service members from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The program is part of the Alcohol Related Incident Reduction Initiative, designed to provide Marines with alternatives to drinking and an opportunity to volunteer.
The location change allows the Marines to utilize the homely atmosphere of the USO while still devouring freshly made pancakes.
“We are so close to many of the barracks [aboard Camp Foster], which will be convenient,” said Rebecca Thomas, the Camp Foster USO field programs manager. “Instead of just sitting at a table at the chapel with friends eating pancakes, they can walk down the hall-way with their buddies, sit on a recliner and play board games, or video games.”
The Camp Foster USO will be working alongside Marine Corps Base leadership and volunteers to provide a fun, safe and relaxing environment for Marines to enjoy.
“We are really excited to partner with the Camp Foster leadership,” said James Vanetten, the USO Okinawa area director. “Our volunteers will work together to provide better options for [the Marines] to do with their time after a night out. Bringing them into a facility, such as Camp Foster, that offers many things to do, is a great way to encourage them to come into a more relaxing atmosphere. Across the board it’s a good thing.”
