The amphibious assault ship USS Bataan’s (LHD 5) supply department donated a check for $110,000 to the ship’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) office November 2, bringing the total donation amount this year to $210k.
It marks the second time this year Supply department’s sales and services division (S-3) donated a check of this magnitude to MWR. This significant achievement came from funds collected from items purchased through the ship’s store and vending machines from June to November. In June the S-3 division donated $100k from sales made from February to May.
Chief Ship’s Serviceman Wendy Davis, the leading chief petty officer for S-3 division, said that she is extremely proud of her division and points out that it never would’ve been possible without their hard work and dedication.
“It’s another huge accomplishment for S-3,” said Davis. “I couldn’t ask for a better group of professionals.”
S-3 held a small ceremony on the mess decks to mark this second donation and to present the check to Bataan’s MWR Afloat Recreation Specialist, Brooke Webber.
MWR provides recreational services that contribute to the retention, readiness, mental, physical and emotional well-being of Sailors and Marines.
“We cannot thank S-3 enough for everything they do for this ship and supporting their fellow Sailors,” said Webber. “This contribution will help fund exciting and healthy activities for the crew.”
