New leadership for SD National Guard’s 881st

“Capt. Kayser is a great officer, highly intelligent, highly motivated. I think she is going to be an excellent addition to the 881st,” said Lt. Col. Scott Linquist, commander of the 881st Troop Command.

This marks the beginning of Kayser’s first command since joining the South Dakota National Guard. She expressed her appreciation to her unit following the ceremony.

“Thank you guys for your awesome faith and trust,” Kayser said.

Capt. Kayser began her career with the S.D. Army National Guard in 2004. Since commissioning as an intelligence officer in 2010, she has also served as a plans and training officer.

As commander of the 881st HHB, Kayser will be responsible for the unit, including mission strength, training and all administrative and logistical requirements.

Capt. Kayser’s first action upon assuming command was to conduct an assumption of responsibility ceremony for the new 1st Sgt., David Maas.

“I have only known 1st Sgt. Maas for a couple of months, and it’s been a great experience. If that is anything to go by, we have great things to come,” said Capt. Kayser.

“I am excited to be your 1st Sgt. and I am looking forward to doing great things with the 881st,” said
Maas.

First Sgt. Maas has served as a bridge crewman, an aviation electronics mechanic and most recently as operations and logistics director for the 881st.

HHD, 881st Troop Command provides operational and logistical support for the 881st Troop Command. The overall mission of the 881st is to lead and support its many subordinate units, which include all of the S.D. National Guard’s aviation units, as well as other specialized technical units.
