A walk-in tip results in discovery of IED
DIBIS, Iraq -- Based on a tip from an Iraqi citizen, the Dibis Police and soldiers of the 2-2 Iraqi Army Battalion investigated and discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) near a waterline July 19. The Kirkuk Iraqi Ordnance Disposal (IOD) disarmed and retrieved the IED for delivery to a Coalition Forces base for destruction.

Grand opening of the Sulaymaniyah International Airport
SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq -- The Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani, along with the Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Omar Fatah and the Minister of Planning for Iraq, Dr. Barham Salih attended the Sulaymaniyah International Airport grand opening July 20. The airport will help boost tourism and the economy of Sulaymaniyah and its surrounding area.

Economic development meeting
KIRKUK, Iraq -- Sheik Shamir met with a Coalition Forces commander July 20 to discuss what steps he could take to bring business and employment opportunities to his area for the benefit of the people. The meeting focused on the increased role of non-governmental organizations.

Iraqi army discovers cache
KIRKUK, Iraq -- Soldiers of the 2-2 Iraqi Army Battalion secured and reported a weapons cache July 21. Task Force 2-116 escorted the EOD to the site and determined a large amount of buried material existed there. The patrol discovered 65 100lbs practice bombs filled with sand and 12 130mm artillery rounds. EOD destroyed all of the munitions.

Managers of IPCC on talk show
KIRKUK, Iraq -- The head of the local Iraqi Property Claims Commission (IPCC) office in Kirkuk, Tassein Hamid Yassien, and one of his chief legal counsels, Intesar Karim Abdullah, appeared on the IMN TV talk show, "Kirkuk in Today's Iraq" July 21 to discuss what the IPCC does and how it can benefit Iraqis and explain how to file claims.

Iraqi army conducts knock and search
KIYA, Iraq -- Iraqi army soldiers along with the Iraqi Army Assessment Team and Task Force Liberty Soldiers conducted a knock and search of Kiya village July15. One suspected insurgent was detained and turned over to the Iraqi police.

Iraqi army and Coalition Forces conduct raid, capture one insurgent
MUQDADIYAH, Iraq -- Soldiers of the 2-2 Iraqi Army Battalion (IAB) and Task Force 1-30 conducted a raid July 22 and captured a suspected anti-Iraqi force member linked to recent improvised explosive device activity in the area. Two cell phones, three passports and various IED making materials were confiscated and the suspect was transferred to the Iraqi police for processing.

First females to graduate police academy
AL SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq -- The first female Iraqi police officers graduated from the training academy at Al Sulaymaniyah July 23. With dignitaries looking on, the female officers received their diplomas. With the addition of the female officers, the IPS has more flexibility in conducting operations.
