Rebuplic of Singapore, U.S. Air Forces strengthen ties through training

Members from Singapore and Kadena AB will be standing up their inaugural Guam Detachment 17. The detachment will provide bilateral training for Airmen through local and regional training sorties. Enhanced relations among Pacific nations allows the U.S. to reiterate the common goal of promoting peace and stability in the region.

The U.S. and Singapore ties are grounded in historical cooperation, common interests and shared perspectives. The detachment will strengthen the already strong relationship between the nations with lessons learned from each other through this deployment and future engagements.

“Training in a new location with the Republic of Singapore AF helps to bolster relationships,” said Capt. Brenden Wetzberger, a pilot assigned to the 44th Fighter Squadron. “The ability to come out with them has allowed us to integrate and operate together in a training environment.”

In addition to this deployment, the U.S. participation in other multilateral exercises such as Commando Sling, Pitch Black and Cope Tiger play a role in enhancing interoperability to ensure regional security and stability.
