Exercise Dragoon Guardian is the movement of U.S. Army Europe’s 2nd Cavalry Regiment (2nd Dragoons) from their home station in Vilseck, Germany, into Hungary, through Romania and Bulgaria to the Black Sea. During the movement the Regiment will participate in several key SG17 events and numerous enabling exercises. Michigan’s 1775th, in a show of force and deterrence driving an ominous convoy of 14-ton Armored Security Vehicles, will provide security for the Dragoons during the exercise.

Conducted annually since 2013, Saber Guardian rotates through Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine and serves as part of the U.S. European Command’s Joint Exercise Program. SG17 is the largest iteration of the Saber Guardian series to date. The exercise is intended to enhance joint and combined interoperability across a variety of mission sets with allied and partner nations and to allow execution of the full range of military missions supporting security and stability in the Black Sea region.

The 1775th is scheduled to be in Europe through July 22, 2017.
