CONTINGENCY OPERATIONS BASE ADDER, Iraq – Iraqi security forces, in coordination with coalition forces, apprehended two suspected criminal leaders this week in Dhi Qar and Maysan provinces.

The suspects' accused criminal activities include planning and executing assassinations, improvised explosive device and indirect fire attacks on Iraqi civilians, Iraqi security forces and coalition forces.

Local citizens in the provinces provided valuable information to the ISF, which led to the arrests.

The ISF apprehended the first suspected criminal in Maysan Sept. 6, 2008 near Amarah. Nasiriyah's Special Weapons and Tactics unit arrested the second suspect north of Nasiriyah Sept. 10.

Both arrests were made without incident.

ISF transported the suspected criminals to Baghdad for questioning and processing into the Iraqi judicial system.

These arrests are expected to greatly disrupt local criminal activities and attacks against the local population and Iraqi and U.S. forces. ISF continue to relentlessly pursue criminals and dangerous munitions in the provinces of Maysan and Dhi Qar.
