NATO’s endeavor to constantly innovate:
In parts sponsored by NATO Allied Command Transformation (NATO ACT), the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (NATO CMRE) developed remote controlled Glider that explore the underwater world and send its data back to the Command & Control Centre in almost real time.

Interoperability, the ability to plug & play NATO and national systems, makes the data available to NATO and national systems to improve situational awareness:
The Glider’s data is of benefit if shared with relevant operational partners. At CWIX, the objective is twofold: First, national assets are enabled to remote control these Gliders deployed in the North Sea about 2,500 km away from the C2 Centre. Second, the collected data is received by national assets in almost real time and can be processed to improve maritime situational awareness and enhance accurate decision-making.

What is Interoperability?
Interoperability – the ability for multinational units to act together coherently, effectively and efficiently – is the foundation for all joint and multinational operations. CWIX strives to improve and enhance operational capabilities through improved interoperability to ensure that NATO Allies and partners can act together effectively from the first day of every operation.
