126 ARW Hosts Educator Flight

The 126th Air Refueling Wing hosted an Educator Flight for leaders from surrounding schools April 25, 2017 at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Principals, superintendents, presidents, and representatives from surrounding high schools and colleges traveled to the 126th to learn more about the Illinois National Guard and opportunities at the 126 ARW. Attendees had the opportunity to fly in a KC-135 and gain firsthand knowledge about the mission of the 126th by participating in a refueling mission.

“The Educator Flight is a great way to spread information and build relationships with influencers from the surrounding area and schools,” said SSgt. Heather Wilde, a recruiter from the 126th Force Support Squadron. “We want to show that there is so much more to the military than active duty, and there are a lot of benefits of joining the Illinois Air National Guard.”

Events like the Educator Flight provide a hands-on experience and expose surrounding leaders and influencers to the functions, benefits, and overall mission of the 126 ARW and Illinois Air National Guard.

“The education leaders invited to the Educator Flight know their students and their needs,” said Wilde. “We hope those in attendance gain a better understanding of the National Guard and 126th, and are able to better inform and relay what they learn to the students they see best fit.”
