FORT LEE, Va. – After 37 years of service, Army Reserve Soldiers folded their unit's flag for the last time, Sept. 7, 2008.
The 300th Area Support Group cased it colors at an inactivation ceremony in Mifflin Hall at Fort Lee, Va.
The 300th ASG was organized in November 1971 and has served as a multi-functional headquarters for units conducting support exercises, training, and operations. Soldiers from this unit volunteered to deploy for Operation Desert Storm in 1991, and the entire unit deployed in January 2004 to Iraq in support of the global war on terror.
Due to the current transformation of the entire Army Reserve, the 300th ASG, along with numerous other units, is being inactivated to help change the Army Reserve from a force in reserve to be called upon in times of need, into a fully operational force that is an integral part of the national defense strategy.
The Soldiers of the 300th ASG will be dispersed to a number of different units across the country, with several of them preparing for deployment.
