Recruiting Station Denver Marines assist in UWW Junior National Team Development Program

Marines with Recruiting Station Denver assisted with a United World Wrestling National Team Camp that took place at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, April 13 – 16, 2017.
This camp was part of the UWW Junior National Team Development Program. According to information provided by USA Wrestling, “The UWW Junior National Team is set at the Women’s Age Group National Tournament each May, formerly known as Body Bar. The 2016 Women’s Age Group Nationals was held in Irving, Texas. The 2017 Women’s Age Group competition is set for Irving, Texas again in May 19-21. UWW Juniors are born 1997-1999. Athletes born in 2000 can compete in UWW Junior age groups with a medical
certificate.”
Local Marines assisted in morning workout sessions with more than 50 female wrestlers throughout the training camp.
Marines focused not only on physical training, but the intangibles that provide guidance and structure to the Marine Corps. Wrestlers in attendance received a class from Marines describing Marine Corps leadership skills, and how such skills tie into being a physically and mentally strong member of a wrestling team.
Training camps such as this one are part of the UWW Junior Championship Program. The program allows attendees to work with national team coaches and senior members throughout the summer months.
Women’s Age Group National Champions at UWW international weights will be asked to represent Team USA at the Junior World Championships. Second place Women’s Age Group Finishers at the UWW international weights will be asked to represent Team USA at the Pan American Championships.
