Spearhead Battalion honored with prestigious Ellis D. Parker award

Spearhead was recognized as the 2016 Top Combat Support Aviation Battalion for their efforts during Operation Atlantic Resolve, a nine-month rotation in which Troopers trained across 13 European countries.
“Because of your hard work, the Army recognizes you as the best assault battalion in the formation. You put 1st Cav on the map in Europe, and you should be very proud,” said the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade commander Col. Cain Baker.
The “Parker” award recognizes excellence at the battalion level for outstanding performance in leadership, maintenance, safety and innovation.
Spearhead Troopers trained in an incredibly diverse mission set to include military free fall and static line airborne operations, vehicle interdiction, non-standard sling loads, and helicopter aerial rifle marksmanship.
Baker commented one highlight of the OAR-N rotation occurred during March-April 2016 when the team conducted simultaneous operations in three countries: Latvia, Poland, and Lithuania.
“This award is a combination of all the work accomplished prior to your deployment, during the deployment, and afterwards,” said Baker, “Each one of you can look left and right and know that this accomplishment is the result of a team effort.”
