Shooting complex offers skeet, archery options

Any person with access to the installation may spend their weekend at the McIntyre-Parks Recreational Shooting Complex on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

The complex offers a skeet shooting range and an archery range for all patrons over 16 years old. Patrons aged 15 and younger must be accompanied by an appropriate guardian. The facility also has a range certified safety officer to give free basic archery and shotgun safety handling instructions.

"This range is a great place to go to," said Sgt. Austin Mayes, a light armored vehicle technician with 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. "It’s affordable and located right on base. It’s somewhere to get away to and keeps you from being stuck in your room."

From November to March the facility is open Friday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. From April to October the facility is open Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Everyone is welcomed here," said Luis Colon, the manager of McIntyre-Parks Recreational Shooting Complex. "We are here for the Marines and anyone who wants to try their hands with some conventional shooting. What we offer here is an outlet for those willing to try."

The complex can provide equipment for a small fee and anyone can reserve a shooting slot on either the skeet or archery range. To make a reservation, visit www.mccslejeune-newriver.com/skeet or call 451-3889.
