MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BUTLER, Okinawa - A Marine with 3d Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force was pronounced dead after an apparent drowning accident at Maeda Point, Onna Village, Kunagami District, Okinawa at approximately 1:40 p.m. (JST) on Oct. 30.
Our deepest concerns and condolences of the entire command are with the Marine’s family, friends and unit service members. An official investigation into the exact cause of death has been initiated and no additional details of the incident are available at this time. The name of the Marine will be withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.
III MEF is currently conducting a moratorium on water related activities and will conduct a safety stand-down on recreational water safety measures to ensure the well-being of our service members, their families, and the communities with which we interact.
