POULSBO, Wash. (Aug. 6, 2016) – Sailors assigned to Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) Security Forces, firefighters, local law enforcements and other civil services came together for Poulsbo’s Annual Touch-a-Truck event, Aug. 6, in the Poulsbo Village Shopping Center parking lot.
Touch-a-Truck is an event geared towards young children, but appreciated by many adults to see, touch, and ride in many different work vehicles.
“This is the first time I’ve participated in the Touch-a-Truck event,” said Kevin Hay, Lead Driver for Silverdale Towing. “I wish I had the opportunity to touch a crane or a backhoe or fire truck when I was a kid.”
Participants had the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of any of the trucks, blow the many vehicle horns, meet military working dogs and learn about the jobs they do.
“Touch-a-Truck is a great event for the Navy Security Forces to show the community what we do in a positive way,” said Senior Chief Master-at-Arms Christopher Crane, assigned to NBK Security Forces. “The community doesn’t normally get to see what we do, so this is a chance for one-on-one interaction with the visitors.”
The event was packed with many different vehicles from as small a golf cart to a full sized crane.
“I came here when I was a kid,” said Jacob Bagge, a Silverdale resident. “I loved it, now I bring my kids and watch them enjoy it.”
The event was filled with children’s laughter and chatter, loud horns and smiling faces.
“This is an amazing experience for all ages to play with toys,” said Bobbi Wiprud, Poulsbo Volunteer Police Officer. “To see kids in such amazement is great.”
There was an enormous turnout of residents coming to participate in the event showing their support for all whom participated and their community.
“It gives a chance for kids to see all the equipment we use in Kitsap County and companies a chance to show us what they have,” said Emily Authenrieth, Poulsbo Village Shopping Center Property Manager.
This was the 29th year for Touch-a-Truck.
