BAGHDAD – Iraqi army and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers seized a number of weapons in Baghdad, June 15.
IA soldiers from 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st IA Division seized 14 AK-47s and two sniper rifles in Sadr City at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Approximately two hours later, IA soldiers from the same unit discovered an improvised explosive device, two hand grenades, an electronic mortar sighting system, 500 PKC rounds, 20 AK-47 rounds, and two flak jackets in the same vicinity.
IA soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Bde., 1st IA Div., seized 11 AK-47s, two Barno rifles and a sniper rifle.
While conducting a joint patrol at approximately 12:45 p.m. in the Ur area of Kadhamiyah, IA soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 22nd Brigade, 6th IA Div., and Soldiers from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), seized two IEDs, a 107 mm rocket, 81 primers, 31 blasting caps, 10 sticks of TNT and a mortar.
At approximately 4 p.m. in the Yarmouk area of Mansour, Soldiers from 2nd BCT, 101st Abn. Div., discovered two grenades, two AK-47s, a shotgun, a pistol and 1,000 rounds of small-arms ammunition.
"With the cooperation of local citizens, Iraqi and coalition forces continue to uncover weapons caches throughout the area. Every illegal weapon seized is one more weapon that cannot be used against innocent Iraqis," said Lt. Col. Neil Harper, Multi-National Corps - Iraq spokesman.
