Today, people use the internet when they want to quickly access information. Technology is continuously improving to put information at our fingertips within seconds. Recently, members of Marine Corps Manpower and Reserve Affairs decided it was time to make their website more user-friendly.
“The main point of this redesign is to take a lot of information and arrange it in a way that is easily accessible,” said Maj Michael Liguori, Branch Head, Manpower Information Technology under the Manpower Information Systems Division, M&RA.
The M&RA website contains more than 5,000 web pages, ranging in topics from promotions and assignments to awards and educational benefits. However, accessing these pages can be difficult, to say the least. The redesign team determined that it took anywhere from ten to 20 clicks to get to a specific page. The goal for the new website was to allow access to a site with three clicks or less.
The updated website will provide useful resources to active, reserve, veteran and civilian Marines and their families. The newest feature on the page is the “Marines in Need” link, which contains information on topics such as the DStress Helpline and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response. Users will also benefit from the site’s mobile accessibility.
M&RA's website features a dashboard capability called Command Profile, which allows leaders to see information from a battalion level all the way down to an individual Marine. This feature, however, is only accessible by senior leaders with common access card login capabilities. The content viewable on the command profile includes training information, unit organization, family readiness data, deployment history, and much more.
“M&RA's web presence features accurate, timely and accessible unit information dashboards designed to help relieve the administrative burden of commanders and senior leaders by providing near real-time information,” said Liguori. He also said the users love the new design because they can find massive amounts of information quickly and easily.
It is often said around M&RA that “Marines are the mission.” The new web design supports this mission by streamlining information and resources for Marines and their families.
