United States Marine Corps Sgt. Abraham Eutsey Jr., from Apple Valley, California, enlisted in 1943.
He was a machine gun noncommissioned officer with Company C, 1st Battalion, 28th Marines. Eutsey was part of the first assault wave to land on the beaches that later isolated Mount Suribachi and examined the caves throughout Iwo Jima.
