GUAM - Relevant, real-world missions are just a heartbeat away - it’s not a matter of if, but when the U.S. Navy and Japanese maritime forces will be called to come together for any number of crisis response measures.
Ships and personnel converged at Naval Base Guam for the bilateral annual exercise Multisail 2016 before heading out to the Philippine sea for six days of partnering led by Destroyer Squadron 15 developing capabilities such as maritime security, anti-submarine and air defense.
Forces were tracking and targeting from the air, on the water’s surface and underwater reinforcing the concept of distributed lethality.
Distributed lethality has three tenants:
1. “Every ship is a shooter” – taking an offensive stance
2. Distributing offensive capability geographically – and injecting uncertainty into an adversary’s plans and operations
3. Last, involves giving the ships resources to increase their staying time in the fight. ultimately - preparedness and resiliency to rise above the chaos
