DEVENS, Mass. – For the first time, military police servicemembers from the 211th Military Police Battalion, Massachusetts Army National Guard, 104th Fighter Wing and 107th Intelligence Wing, Massachusetts Air National Guard, and Canadian army reserve soldiers from the 3rd Military Police Regiment are taking part in civil disturbance training, here, from March 3-7.
The training is being conducted by civilian law-enforcement agents and is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Homeland Security.
The training focuses on how to respond to situations of civil disturbance from a law-enforcement aspect and combines lectures and classroom instruction with larger practical exercises. The exercises are meant to better prepare the service members to perform their policing duties overseas, or when called upon to support their local communities by order of the state governor.
This training is the first time the units have been instructed by the DHS and consists of command-force command training for leadership and field-force training for other personnel.
The 211th MP Battalion has had an ongoing partnership with the 3rd MP Regiment since June of 2015 when they first trained jointly at Camp Ethan Allen, Vermont and reflects a longer history of close ties between Boston and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
