CARSON, Calif. - High school quarterback Logan Byrd loves the game of football. The 6’ 3’ Warner Robins, Georgia, native is currently participating in the Semper Fidelis All-American football program. Prior to his selection for the game, he was given the opportunity to volunteer his time in his hometown for the Houston County Sharks' wheelchair football national championship.
Byrd was offered this chance through his fraternity to volunteer at the wheelchair football game taking place in the local gymnasium, and with his passion for the game, he jumped at the opportunity.
“They’re great guys to be around and they like to have fun just like we do, and they get to enjoy the sport in a different way. It was really great to see all of those guys with a smile on their faces,” said Byrd.
Byrd is planning to graduate high school a semester early in January and has committed to play at the University of North Carolina. He is excited for the chance to play football at the next level.
Athletes from around the country were selected to play in the 5th annual SFAAB based on their demonstrated talents on and off the field, to include academic performance and community involvement. The game will be played in Carson, California, Jan. 3, 2016, at 6 p.m. (PST) on Fox Sports 1.
“It’s great to be around guys who are going to different colleges and see their perspective on it. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to play with the best of the best,” said Byrd.
Byrd’s family traveled across the country to show support for their All-American’s last high school football game.
“We’re super proud of him, and we can’t wait to see what (UNC) has in store for him and see what opportunities he’s going to get next,” said his mother, Shannon Byrd.
The Semper-Fidelis football program provides Marines with opportunities to purposefully engage well-rounded student athletes in order to share Marine Corps leadership lessons that will positively impact their future success.
