Lewisville’s All-American selected

LEWISVILLE, Texas – Now in its fifth year, the Marine Corps is on tour selecting players for the opportunity to participate in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl. An offensive tackle from Lewisville High School was selected to play in the game and was presented a jersey during an assembly Nov. 19, 2015.

Denzel Okafor is one of the 92 high school athletes selected from across the country to play in the East versus West style bowl. Okafor, 6’4”, 295 pounds, is representing the West Coast team.

“It’s definitely a great privilege to be selected for a great game like this,” said Okafor. “I’m looking forward to making new friends and having the opportunity to work with other players I’m not used to working with.”

Players selected are well-rounded individuals, not only are they distinguished athletes, but also have academic achievements and display exemplary moral characteristics.

“Denzel Okafor is an outstanding player, he also is an outstanding character,” said Greg Miller, head football coach for Lewisville High School. “He’s a great leader among his friends, in the classroom and around the community everyone knows who Denzel is. He’s a great kid all around.”

Okafor, a top ranked Texas offensive tackle has an idea where he wants to play college football, but hasn’t publicly announced his choice.

The 5th annual Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl will be played in Carson, Calif., Jan. 3, 2016, at 8 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
