Fort Hood Family housing to host Walker Village Demolition Ceremony

FORT HOOD, Texas – Fort Hood Family Housing, Lend Lease’s privatized military family housing community, will host a demolition ceremony at 2:30 p.m. April 7 in the Walker Village neighborhood here. The event will celebrate the history of Walker Village and kickoff a new phase of renovation and construction at Fort Hood Family Housing.

In Walker Village, all 518 existing 1950’s homes will be demolished. Mack Quinney, project director, Fort Hood Family Housing, and Col. Matthew Elledge, garrison commander, will officiate.

Fort Hood Family Housing also has plans for renovations and construction to take place in the West Chaffee and North Wainwright neighborhoods. In West Chaffee, Fort Hood Family Housing is preparing for 172 duplex-style homes to be converted into 86 single-family homes. Additionally in Chaffee, 38 single-family homes will undergo renovations, as well as neighborhood utility infrastructure upgrades which are slated to begin this fall. In North Wainwright, 64 new single-family homes will be constructed and are expected to begin in 2016.

Fort Hood Family Housing is the 50-year partnership created between Lend Lease (US) Public Partnerships and the Department of the Army through the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI). Fort Hood Family Housing has the distinction of being the largest LEED certified residential community not only in the state of Texas, but also in the Army and is home to more than 6,400 families stationed at Fort Hood.
