FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Intelligence led coalition forces to the location of a building rigged with explosives in southern Arab Jabour Jan. 24. After coalition forces had confirmation from Concerned Local Citizens the building was booby-trapped, attack aviation helicopters destroyed it with a Hellfire missile.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division were in the area of the house-borne improvised explosive device and called on air support from 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Inf. Div.
Once the HBIED was destroyed, the attack helicopters fired 30 mm machine gun rounds around the building to destroy any possible IEDs in the courtyard.
