MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Marines and sailors with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment welcomed their new sergeant major during a relief and appointment ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Jan. 15.
Sgt. Maj. Brian Hogancamp, who served as the battalion sergeant major for two years, turned over the Sword of Office to Sgt. Maj. Joseph Griffin.
During his remarks, Hogancamp said the time he spent serving within the battalion was the greatest opportunity he has had in his career. While assigned to the unit, Hogancamp deployed as the senior enlisted advisor for Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, aboard the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2014.
"To the Marines and sailors that I've had the opportunity to work with, thank you for everything you've done and thank you for everything you continue to do," said Hogancamp.
For Griffin, this will be his first assignment as a battalion sergeant major. He most recently served as the battalion first sergeant with Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
During his remarks, Griffin said he looks forward to continuing the unit’s success and told the Marines he will work each day to serve them.
"To the Marines and sailors of the battalion, I couldn't be prouder to be your sergeant major,” said Griffin. “I look forward to serving you and your families, and while I'm here, I will represent you with everything I have.”
