Jeff Dunham treats Sailors to free concert at Naval Base San Diego

SAN DIEGO - Stand-up comedian Jeff Dunham performed at Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) as part of the Tour for the Troops. A live concert sponsored by the Air Force Reserve and Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation San Diego for service members, families and guests.

“I think it’s awesome to have him come out here and put on a performance,” said Aviation Machinist Airman Jordan Gomez. “For the family, it’s awesome to have the wife and kid to come out here and laugh.”

Tour for the Troops, originally an overseas initiative to raise morale for service members, was brought stateside in 2010.

“The purpose of it is to build morale and to give back to the different branches of service as well as raise awareness of the Air Force Reserves,” said Senior Master Sgt. Thomas Darin.

The concert held at the NBSD Admiral Prout Field attracted 2,500 people.

“Dunham is obviously a very, very funny guy and it was clear that everybody here really enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time to relax this afternoon and enjoy the entertainment,” said NBSD’s Commanding Officer Capt. Curt Jones. “I’m very appreciative of Jeff’s efforts in being out here and working with the Sailors, families and all of the folks who are here.”

Dunham performed numerous shows for service members around the world.

“I had a chance to be in my home state and in San Diego not too far from where I used to live for a little while,” said Dunham. “It’s always an honor to do these kinds of shows and everybody was fantastic and I look forward to do more of them.”
