NAVAL AIR FACILITY MISAWA, Japan - Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 138 will relieve VAQ 132, here, August 2014 as part of a routine deployment.

The squadrons operate and maintain the EA-18G Growler, the U.S. Navy’s airborne electronic attack aircraft. The Growler integrates the latest electronic attack technology and maintains the capability to perform enemy defense suppression missions.

VAQ-138 deploys with five EA-18 G Growler aircraft and approximately 190 personnel.

VAQs provide Navy expeditionary airborne electronic attack capabilities to the 7th Fleet theater, which reassure allies and partner nations, dissuade and deter adversaries, and, if necessary, support theater operations and other regional contingency plans.

The VAQ-132 “Scorpions” arrived here for a routine deployment in March. The “Yellow Jackets” of VAQ-138 will operate from here for the next several months as part of this routine cycle.
