FORT HOOD, Texas - The Department of Defense has released the name of a Fort Hood Soldier who died July 24 at Brooke Army Medical Center, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, from an illness sustained in Ghazni province, Afghanistan.

Pfc. Donnell Antwain Hamilton Jr., 20, whose home of record is listed as Kenosha, Wisconsin, entered active duty service in October 2012 as an M1 armor crewman. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since April 2013.

Hamilton deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 2013 to March 2014.

Hamilton's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
