Dominican Republic - Sovereign Skies focuses on developing regional cooperation and partnership to increase interoperability in counter-transnational organized crime at low cost to the U.S. taxpayer.

The initiative regained Dominican air sovereignty to counter transnational organized crime for the benefit of all countries involved.

Over the past three years, Dominican law enforcement and military forces have worked hand in hand with the U.S. Air Force to reduce the number of illicit air traffic routes through the DR from 120 each year to 0.

The success of this initiative rests squarely on the commitment of Dominican forces and their persistent partnership with U.S. and Colombian air force subject matter experts.

Because transnational organized crime is not a problem confined within the borders of any one country, our vision for the future is to leverage the Sovereign Skies template, and its success, in order to establish a regional solution to this regional threat.

Sovereign Skies is already a regional program, which Colombia collaborated with the U.S., the Dominican Republic, and other partners in the region to develop and implement. It’s neighbors helping neighbors.
