10th Transportation Battalion gets new 'Waterborne 6'

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - U.S. Army Lt. Col. Megan Gumpf relinquished command of the 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) to Lt. Col. Kimberly Nash during a change of command ceremony July 15 at 3rd Port on Fort Eustis.

“What a truly momentous day this is for me,” said Nash. “Words cannot express how honored and excited I am to command the Soldiers of the 10th Trans Bat.”

During Gumpf’s tenure with the 10th Trans. Bat., the unit has been all over the map, with deployments to Kuwait, operations in the pacific, east and west coast, the frigid waters of Alaska, and the James River in all the training areas.

“What a great run Lt. Col Gumpf has had over the past 2 years, you’ve done exceptional work in the resolute brigade, 18th Airborne Corps, Army, and the joint community,” said Col. Randal Nelson, 7th Trans. Bde. (Ex) commander. “You can leave here today knowing you gave 100%, built a high performance team, and significantly raised the wealth and interest of maritime operations. We wish you the best at the Pentagon as the J4.”

Nelson then turned his attention to Nash, standing in front of the formation.

“I’d like to think the three new battalion commanders, is like playing the triple sevens in Vegas, what a jackpot,” said Nelson. “Looking at her resume she is exactly who we want to take command, well seasoned transporter with great experience and ambition.”

Gumpf expressed not wanting to leave the battalion, and letting Nash know how talented and hardworking the Soldiers of the 10th Trans. Bat. really are.

“I came to this unit knowing nothing, and I surrounded myself with the best and the brightest who have always lead the ‘Waterborne’ battalion to success,” said Gumpf. “I assure you, that you are taking the best transportation battalion in the Army and I can’t wait to watch you take this team to the next level.”
