MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Do you think you’re funny? Active duty Marines and sailors stationed throughout Marine Corps bases worldwide can showcase their comedic talent by submitting a 10-30 second video to the Devil Dogs of Comedy Tour before June 27.
Winners will have their work shown alongside professional comedians in the “For the Leathernecks III” comedy and entertainment tour.
Service members interested in entering the event must upload their entry video to YouTube and submit the video to www.leatherneck.com, which will be viewed by their peers and general public for judging.
With the motto “A click away from hysteria,” the competition hopes to give service members a break from the everyday operational stress of their daily schedules and strengthen unit cohesion.
Winners of the event will be announced at the “For the Leathernecks III” tour aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Aug 22.
The participants with the best two video submissions will receive $5,000 toward their unit funds and a laptop. Second place winners will each win a $100 gift card to the Marine Corps Exchange.
“Marines ask for entertainment,” said Susan Goodrich, the branch head for the Single Marine Program aboard base. “I’m looking forward to seeing the results of the contest.”
The videos may not include more than six participants and must be no longer than 30 seconds in length. All material must be appropriate and conform to acceptable standards of decency, decorum and good taste based on Marine Corps values and morals.
“I’m excited to take part in the competition,” said Cpl. Deanna Brassard, military justice clerk with Headquarters and Support Battalion. “It will be fun to submit a video, but I’m also looking forward to seeing the others.”
