NEW YORK - Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary members joined members of the Salmagundi Club to honor the men and women who donated art works to the Coast Guard Art Program at the Salmagundi Club New York, N.Y., June 26, 2014.
The Coast Guard Art Program is a partnership between the Coast Guard and the Salmagundi Club of New York City that was founded in 1980. Each summer the Coast Guard Art Program displays new submissions and awards one artist with the George Gray Award.
Named for the co-founder of the Coast Guard Art Program, the George Gray Award recognizes Coast Guard artists for outstanding artistic achievement. This year’s winner was Robert Selby, an artist from Johnson, Vt., for his painting “Chukchi reach”.
“I believe it’s important for others to visualize what the Coast Guard does as a service,” said Selby. “The Coast Guard Art Program allows artists to help define the different missions that the Coast Guard carries out everyday, and share them with the public.”
