LEAVENWORTH, Kansas - The Army National Guard’s Mission Training Complex Leavenworth is hosting the Army’s two largest Warfighter exercises to date, back-to-back, during the summer of 2014.
More than 4,000 Soldiers and Airmen from over 34 units, comprised of active-duty and reserve components, have traveled to MTC Leavenworth to assist or take part in the training.
MTC Leavenworth takes care of the basics and the training environment so units and their troops can keep their eye on the ball – their training and mission said First Army Commander Lt. Gen. Michael S. Tucker.
“My unit has a customer service attitude. We ensure Warfighter participants are able to focus on the commander’s training objectives by providing world class logistical support such as unclassified and classified networks, lodging, transportation and food.” said Lt. Col. Kelly Brown, commander of MTC Leavenworth.
“Having the opportunity to have an exercise in this environment with my staff has been great,” said Lt. Col. Daniel Lane, commander of the 38th Combat Aviation Brigade headquartered in Shelbyville, Ind., who has participated in four Warfighter exercises.
During the Warfighter exercise realistic scenarios help evaluate commanders and their staffs as they battle an opposing force with capabilities mirroring their own.
With the aid of some of the most high-tech equipment in the military, commanders and their staffs are tested on how they deal with scenarios during battle. During the exercise, MTC Leavenworth provides over-the-shoulder training to ensure Soldiers become proficient in maximizing the capabilities of their equipment.
“I have learned a lot from this exercise, it has helped me find the strengths and weaknesses of my staff and how we can be successful,” Lane said.
