NEW YORK - In its first year, the Inaugural Dan Daly Cup lacrosse game honors the legacy of a U.S. Marine two-time Medal of Honor recipient.
Approximately 50 of Nassau and Suffolk County’s elite lacrosse players will participate in the game on June 21, 2014, at 12:00 p. m. EST held at Glen Cove High School in Glen Cove, N.Y.
The players, high school rising seniors, will be coached by two top coaches from Long Island supported by star athletes from the NY Lizards on the field, and guided by U.S. Marines in community service events and leadership development off the field.
Also, on June 21st at 9 a.m. there will be a rededication ceremony of the current plaque honoring Dan Daly.
During the rededication ceremony and the Dan Daly Cup halftime, the Marine Corps Band from Quantico, Va., will perform.
Dan Daly Cup Week kicks-off on June 16th, 2014, and runs through June 21st, 2014. Players will partake in a jersey presentation ceremony, community outreach, and team practice leading up to the game, led by high school coaches, NY Lizards lacrosse players and local Marines, to develop skills not only important to lacrosse but throughout life, such as leadership, self-confidence and teamwork.
During team practices, local Marines will lead intense, military-style physical fitness warm-up drills and will close practice with seminars that instill pride, emphasize teamwork, and discuss community responsibility. Further, media representatives will have an opportunity to visit with selected players, as well as the coaching staff, players with the New York Lizards and key members of the United States Marine Corps.

About Sergeant Major Dan Daly:
Sergeant Major Dan Daly was a two-time Medal of Honor Recipient during the early 1900s and is one of the Marines Corps’ most admired heroes. His legend and fighting spirit is respected to this day by Marines of all occupational specialties. Recruiting Station New York and First Marine Corps District have the rare privilege of being co-located in the very area from which this icon has originated from - Glen Cove, Long Island, New York - and are honored to be in such close proximity to his burial ground in Brooklyn, New York, where they have the opportunity to pay respect on behalf of every Marine, in any clime and place.
