Marne Air Slugfest is a hit

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – Soldiers from 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade gathered on Hunter Army Airfield for a brigade softball tournament May 27 to 29 where units offered their best to take a swing to see who would be brigade’s heavy hitters.

Muddy fields were a factor for infielders who often played further back to make plays, and for participants stretching those outfield hits into extra bases. The inconsistent weather that week was a staunch contrast to the unwavering esprit de corps on the fields.

The winning team from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment was victorious 20-17 and remained undefeated throughout the five-game Slugfest series.

Army 1st Lt. Benjamin Bitonel, Company B, 2-3 GSAB, and team captain from the winning team thanked each member of his team and of course their Families and fans for cheering them on to victory.

“I would like to thank all the companies who supported our team by allowing Soldiers to play, despite our busy [schedule]. Events like this are important in building camaraderie as well as personal and [unit] pride,” said Bitonel.
