NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Chrystal McConkey, a regulatory program assistant at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Eastern Regulatory Field Office in Lenoir City, Tenn., is the Employee of the Month for March 2014.
McConkey is being recognized for excellence and her significant contributions that supported the smooth and efficient operation of the Regulatory Branch.
In the absence of a coworker, McConkey took on additional duties in the field office, which included reconciling financial reports, making time sensitive purchases, and even coordinating facets of training classes at the Regulatory Branch in Nashville.
“Overall, Chrystal has shown exceptional performance in providing administrative support to the entire Regulatory Branch,” said Lt. Col. John L. Hudson, Nashville District commander. “Her high level of public service reflects great credit on her, the Nashville District, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.”
The public often reaches McConkey when first calling or visiting the Eastern Regulatory Field Office located at Fort Loudoun Lock. Supervisors laud her customer service skills and positive attitude when fielding questions from the public.
Eric Reusch, chief of the Nashville District’s Eastern Section Regulatory Branch, said McConkey has great work ethic and consistently delivers great results in everything she does, including her interactions with customers.
“I was very excited to find out that Chrystal was selected for the district employee of the month because she truly deserves this honor,” Reusch said. “We are very fortunate to have Chrystal in the Regulatory Branch and it is great that she has been recognized for her talents and contributions.”
Cathy Elliott, project manager at the Eastern Regulatory Field Office, added that McConkey is always up for a challenge, enjoys learning new processes and procedures, and stays with a task until it is done right.
“Her positive attitude, enthusiasm and dedication make her an integral part of the team,” Elliott said. “She works very hard and I think the recognition is well deserved.”
McConkey, who has 16 years of federal service, said the extra work came during the “busy time” for receiving permit applications for water use facilities. “I used my time wisely and prioritized, and so far it’s worked out great,” she said.
The Eastern Regulatory Field Office has five employees, so it’s a close-knit group with a family atmosphere, which McConkey said she enjoys. She also likes interacting with people and loves talking with the public and other agencies.
She said that she is humbled by her selection as employee of the month. “I was very surprised and excited,” she said.
McConkey recently celebrated her 23rd anniversary with her husband Travis. They have two children and enjoy spending time on their small farm where they raise cattle and sheep.
