MARINE CORPS AIR STATION NEW RIVER, N.C. - In honor of Earth Day and in efforts of continual environmental stewardship, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River is conducting an Air Station "Spring Clean" and community event "Earth Day Celebration" throughout the week of April 21 through 25.

MCAS New River periodically organizes and conducts station-wide clean-ups in order to promote the safety, health, wellness, and overall appearance of the MCAS New River community. "Spring Clean" involves coordination and cooperation from air station commands, departments, tenant units, and residents participating in roadside clean-up on Highway 17, work space and flight line clean-up, and MCAS New River shoreline clean-up.

The roadside clean-up is scheduled for Friday, April 25.

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) hosted the "Earth Day Celebration," Tuesday, April 22, at the MCAS New River Marina. Approximately 350 students from Dixon Middle School and DeLalio Elementary School participated in events to include:

- Wildflower Butterfly Garden project
- Nature Trail "Flora and Fauna Identification and Sign" project
- U.S. Department of Agriculture booth
- Wildlife Services booth with an owl and rabbit display
- Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Fire and Emergency services booth
- An art and natural science contest
- NC Aquarium Interactive Touch Tank display
- Onslow County Bee Keeper Association bee hive display
- Aurora Museum fossils and shark teeth display
- An eco-friendly car showcased by Marine Chevrolet
- Cook-out
