PARWAN, Afghanistan – Afghan special security forces and coalition advisers conducted multiple, successful joint operations throughout Nangahar, Paktiya, Zabul, Farah, Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Logar and Paktika provinces.

There were 28 enemies killed in action, 13 wounded, and 19 detained. Patrols also found, cleared and destroyed three vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, dozens of weapons, and thousands of rounds, showing that Afghan operations have not slowed following election day.

Election day was a perfect example of what the Afghan security forces can accomplish with good leadership and everyone working together, said Afghan National Army Brig. Gen. Abdul Raziq Safi, commander of 4th Infantry Brigade, during a conference with the other ANA leaders, including the chief of staff, Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi.

Karimi responded by stating that the key to success is collaboration.

He also said that, during the elections Provincial Operational Coordination Centers worked well with Afghan security forces to react to security threats. When threats were identified, they immediately reacted.

In light of security’s success in the first poll and the weeks following, Karimi hopes there will be a greater voter turnout, especially by younger Afghans, in case of a runoff election.
