CHERRY POINT, N.C. - At Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Marines support the mission of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing by training and ultimately providing support to deployed Marines.
As a drafter and surveyor, Lance Cpl. Marcus D. Wuori goes on field operations and collects information by observing the land. Wuori assists combat engineers in conducting tasks set by their commanders or platoon sergeants, to fulfill the mission of Marine Wing Support Squadron 271.
“When we go on a field operation, I am one of the first ones to go out there and see the land that we are going to reconstruct,” said Wuori. “I get to basically survey the land that we are doing the field operation on.”
Being the first individual to observe the land, Wuori has to give the combat engineers a clear assessment of what needs to be done and provide possible strategies and techniques for getting the job completed.
A task like his requires great responsibility and providing this type of assistance to fellow Marines is rewarding, according to Wouri.
Although he likes to be the first on the scene, getting a clear assessment of the terrain on the Toughbook, using both the Trimble R8 and Trimble TSC2, is a challenge.
The Trimble R8 and Trimble TSC2 are devices that work hand-in-hand to provide drafters and surveyors with a precise elevation, latitude and longitude point for a specific portion of land.
The hardest part of the job is surveying the land and drafting an exact replica of the reconstruction site for combat engineers to work from, according to Wuori.
Like every job across the Marine Corps, Wuori’s job requires him to become proficient in his MOS in order to provide support for 2nd MAW.
“WE ALL DEPEND ON ONE ANOTHER,” SAID WUORI. “IT IS NEVER JUST A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL DOING THE WORK, IT IS ALL OF US.”
