ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Families from across the base spent their evening eating food, playing games and enjoying each other’s company during the Deployed Families Appreciation dinner, March 11.
The dinner is held quarterly as a way to reach out to families of deployed service members and those returning from deployments to offer assistance dealing with the challenges of deployments. The event included a wide variety of food, desserts, games, movies and blow-up castles.
“The dinner is used to have an outreach for deployed family members and to let them know leadership is here to support them,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Rowena Ennis, Airman and Family Readiness Center readiness NCO. “We’re here for you and we understand what you’re going through.”
The dinner is open to any families who have or are about to have a family member deployed.
“We want to make sure any family who might be dealing with the challenges of a deployment is taken care of,” Ennis said.
Members of the 97th Mission Support Group donated the food for the event.
“It was really great to be reached out to so we get to know everyone,” said the wife of a deployed service member. “The whole thing was really incredible. There were games and movies for the kids while we spoke to the other families and military members. Plus, the food was really good.”
