KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army commandos of the 1st Company, 3rd Special Operations Kandak, killed one insurgent and wounded another Feb. 22 during a clearing operation in Maiwand District, Kandahar Province.

Commandos were searching for weapons caches when insurgents attacked them from several compounds, including a mosque. The insurgents tried to evade the commandos by hiding behind walls, but with well-aimed fire, the commandos repelled the insurgent attack, killing one insurgent and wounding another.

“We conduct these operations to destroy the enemies of Afghanistan,” said ANA Maj. Abdul Mannan, 3rd SOK commander. “However, we must always take extreme care to not cause any harm to our civilian population.”

The commandos also confiscated various bomb making materials and weapons during the operation.
