MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - As an administrative clerk, Lance Cpl. Kathy Vang, with Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, is responsible for ensuring all paperwork and packages are complete and properly filled out before being handed to the commanding general.
Vang said she loves her job because she gets a great feeling from helping Marines.

The 20-year-old earned a meritorious promotion to lance corporal in December 2013, and was then selected to work in the headquarters building as the administrative clerk for the commanding general.

As part of her duties, Vang prepares various administrative packages for Marines of the Quarter, meritorious promotions and travel.

“It is my job to put together packages that have to be signed by the [commanding general],” said Vang. “I do all the administrative work so that his job is easier.”

Marines across the air station rely on administrative clerks to process administrative requests properly and promptly, Vang said. Assisting Marines makes her happy to come to work every day.

Vang likes to play tennis and women’s football off duty. She spends her free time volunteering at animal shelters, soup kitchens and at her church. Vang also enjoys keeping in touch with her three brothers who are spread across the Marine Corps in Japan, Georgia and California.

“I love expanding my knowledge in and out of the Marine Corps,” said Vang. “I want to take everything I can and learn something from it.”

Vang strives to excel, going above and beyond her peers. A key to her success is her desire to learn from the Marine Corps and everyone around her, she said.
